2008 NP Network Requirements Workshop - Documents and Background Materials

This page contains several documents related to the collection of network requirements for Nuclear Physics, as well as the workshop agenda.

Agenda

Background materials and past case studies

The case study format for describing network requirements and their underlying science process is documented in the requirements portion of the ESnet web site. We have found that this format is an effective vehicle for capturing both the network requirements derived from the science Instruments and Facilities (e.g. light sources, supercomputer centers - the "hardware" of science) and the network requirements from the Process of Science (the process by which scientists use their tools for knowledge discovery). When combined, these two viewpoints provide a clearer picture of network requirements than either view could provide alone.

Each attendee (or group of attendees representing a given aspect of the Nuclear Physics program) should bring a case study document outlining the network requirements of their science, from an Instruments and Facilities view as well as a Process of Science view. In addition, please discuss needs for collaboration technologies or other network services, if any.

Below please find a document template for case studies, as well as links to previous workshop reports and the requirements pages on the ESnet web site. In particular, there are pages in the requirements section of the ESnet web site specifically tailored to assist case study authors in preparing for the requirements workshops.
